What is Inpainting

Inpainting is the process of restoring or reconstructing missing, damaged, or unwanted parts of data in a way that is generally consistent with the surrounding content.

In traditional fine art, inpainting refers to the process of restoring parts of a painting that have been damaged due to aging, wear, or accidents.

In the digital realm, inpainting is used to digitally reconstruct or modify images, typically by removing unwanted objects or filling in missing regions. This is done using image processing algorithms or AI models.

AI Inpainting

AI Inpainting is becoming widely spread. There are more than one area where users and artists use AI Inpainting:

Images

AI Inpainting is most commonly used in images as mentioned. Digital image inpainting is the technique of filling in removed objects, fixing damaged photos, or generating realistic content in selected areas of an image. AI-powered image editing tools like Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill use inpainting to let users edit or complete images.

Video

AI inpainting is also used in video. It helps complete the visual idea and assure consistency by filling in missing frames or removing unwanted objects across frames in a video.

Audio

AI inpainting helps reconstruct missing or corrupted audio segments, like in old recordings or during signal transmission loss.

Introducing Aiode’s Generate Mode

Generate Mode is a new feature in Aiode. It was developed recently as Aiode is always improving its features and capabilities. The Generate Mode in Aiode lets you easily draw new takes regions to have new music generated for them.

Aiode’s Generate Mode lets you fill in a missing or an incomplete section of your song. Aiode’s virtualized musicians have been modeled after real talented musicians capturing their sounds and playing styles.

Why is it An Amazing Feature

The Generate Mode is such an amazing feature as it streamlines your workflow in Aiode. Here is why  it’s so powerful:

  • It lets you draw multiple takes regions in different musicians’ tracks in a second
  • It is precise and easy to use
  • It can be accessed easily using a shortcut

How To Use Generate Mode

Aiode’s Generate Mode button switch has a brush icon and is located in the Composition page, which can be accessed using the shortcut (2), at the top right of the grid, next to universal project controls. You can also use the shortcut (G) to easily activate and deactivate the Generate Mode

There are two tools in the Generate Mode. Once the mode is activated and by default, your mouse will turn into a Brush tool allowing you to draw new takes regions. There is also an Eraser tool that allows you to erase regions from the grid.

After you draw in all of the regions you would like to have new music generated for, press the Generate Takes button and let Aiode do its magic.

When to Use The Generate Mode

Typically you can use the Generate Mode anytime you want to have new music created for your song.

How Will it Help My Compositions

Aiode’s Generate Mode is an incredible tool in the Aiode toolbox. Other tools like the Snap to Beats, Auto Scroll, and Metronome help you streamline your music composition journey. The Generate Mode takes it to the next level by allowing you seamless and precise control over your project.

With the Generate Mode in your toolbox as a music producer, you will be able to quickly create regions across different tracks and areas of your project and have music generated for them in a few seconds.

How Was It Built

The Generate Mode is based on the in-painting technique in AI. In-painting has been used in AI specifically for images. Inpainting an Image using AI allows you to use a selection or a brush tool to mark a part of your image, afterwards you can tell AI to “add a hat” or “remove beard” for example.

Aiode’s Generate Mode works the same way but for music. You can easily mark different sections of your song and have AI generate new music for them using different instruments and sounds.
